The Saree Man AKA Himanshu Verma

Jai Saree! So, that is how Himanshu greets people! An art curator plus unconditional love towards the notorious fabric equals The Saree Man. Dont get any ideas! Google The Saree Man and you will find a pair of kohl-lined dewy eyes haunting you. In a good way, of course! You find Himanshu Verma in seriously sober (good), but striking drapes. Boy oh boy, gratitude is his attitude when it comes to what people might think. Well, somebody is not limited by the fear factor! We are yet to do our research on Himanshu, The Saree Man. Please bear with us until we give our best!

The Saree Man

Our search landed us up on Red Earth, a multi-disciplinary arts organization. Red Earth, Himanshu's own initiative in Delhi, curates and deals in Indian contemporary visual art as well as organises festivals and works with a range of art forms across styles and genres.

Red Earth

After a vigorous research, we came to know that he is also the person behind 1100 Walks and The Genda Phool Project. 1100 Walks is an end-to-end approach to the city where they celebrate every aspect of it ranging from heritage and food to religion. The best part, they also conduct workshops on the same. Lets say, an urban village walk festival!

The Genda Phool Project is a heart-felt tribute to the Marigold flower. Yes, you heard me right! For some reason unfathomable, I find The Genda Phool Project touching. For me up until now, marigold was just a flower. Himanshu has made a world out of it. I am sure nobody ever celebrated a flower on such a grandiose level. Its crystal clear that you dont have to be at the top of the pyramid to be glorified!

In the name of progress, Delhi Government relocated the flower markets of Fatehpuri, Connaught Place and Mehrauli to the landfill near Ghazipur. Himanshu initiated a walk, which is more of a soul-stirring tribute that starts from the old flower mandis and ends at the latest market. Seems they even distributed / planted marigold saplings just to retain the legend. In his video, he painstakingly presented gazillion slides on the marigold and its depiction. I was really surprised to see so many versions. I say, Jai Marigold...

How could I forget the marigold-laden movies?

We wanted to introduce Himanshu, The Saree Man to you but ended up with Himanshu, the man with a cause. We are glad we did so because in this era, who has time to talk about a flower ? With all due respect, we thank Himanshu for enlightening us and help us see the world with a different perspective! We will be back very soon with Himanshu, The Saree Man! Mom says good things only come to people who wait, so one thing at a time!

Good Earth By Anita Lal

I love this woman and I can say that again!!! I am glad she woke up one day and threw all her excuses, although I wonder if she had any! I assure you this post doesnt do any justice whatsoever to Anita Lal's brainchild! How could I fit India's most luxurious homeware brand in one generic post? She turned a dream to tangible reality! Somewhere along the way, her ideas moved from imagination to creation! You are definitely India's pride and treasure, Anita Lal! I believe your products are not expensive, but priceless! Everything is so zen-like and soothing to my sore eyes!!!

Anita Lal with her daughter, Simran Lal

Please remember, its our version only! What is Good Earth? The Royal Albert of India! Anita Lal is the Queen of Good Earth, the Homeware Enchancia! Revival of the lost art from probably every square inch of the land! One visit to the store and you will certainly be lost in the plethora of everything elegant and hand-crafted! What started off as an itsy bitsy store turned a humongous brand representing India on a grandiose level!

My daughter would love these, any day!!!

Anita Lal was more than fortunate to have studio pottery as a hobby and financial support from her husband. Boy am I glad she didnt ask for monogram bags or fancy wheels! All her efforts paid off and she nurtured Good Earth to what we all know now! Her love for colors gave birth to the vibrancy we see today at her stores!

Good Earth is a luxury brand with hand-crafted products for every corner of your dream home! They do ranges like Wellness, Kids, Living, Bed & Bath and Entertainment! Every range has a collection! Every collection is based on a place! They dig deep into its culture, heritage, age-old traditions and Voila! The end product is not just anything, but everything!

They interpret their knowledge through contemporary visuals! Good Earth product range is eco-conscious and use only natural dyes. They claim never using polyester, either! Anita's ultimate goal is to support craftsmen and keep the tradition alive!

We can never justify in one post, but we can assure their range is worth every second of your time and every penny of your hard-earned! If you are aware of Good Earth, you know what we are taking about!!! We learnt they have interesting products like cinnamon tooth picks, for instance.

They have the most adorable Sher Bache range for kids, which is a cute tribute! All the awards and accolades Good Earth received is just an understatement! Its just beyond words, divine and heavenly!

Good Earth began its journey in 1996 from Mumbai! You can shop their exquisite and exclusive range from stores across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad! Our personal favourite range from Good Earth is Ratnakara, Gems Of The Indian Ocean from last year! Especially the Indian Ocean Umbrella priced at 3200 INR! We love the Persia Garden dinnerware range and Fergana from Bed & Bath range, too!

Visual feast!!!

Good Earth has an inspired collection from 2005 onwards, so we believe there is one for you all! Support everything handmade and make the difference! Torn between the colorful riot, we managed to pick our favorites for the post! Cant believe homeware can make such a difference to your day!
